Professor Igor Pietkiewicz is a certified psychotherapist and psychotherapy supervisor. His research focuses on clinical psychology as well as community health psychology. His professional interests include the influence of culture and religion on human health, interpretation of symptoms, and ultilizing available sources of psychological support and help.

For over 20 years, Professor Pietkiewicz has been treating patients suffering from various disorders. He also teaches and supervises other psychotherapists. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of trauma-related conditions. He holds certificates of the Scientific Psychotherapy Section of the Polish Psychiatric Association, the European Association for Psychotherapy, and the EMDR European Association (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). For many years, he has been a board member of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation and an associate editor at the European Journal for Trauma and Dissociation. He runs two online services, including: traumaidysocjacja.pl, e-psyche.eu.

Currently, he is a Principal Investigator in two research projects financed by the National Science Centre, including: “Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Depersonalization and Derealization States in Clinical and Nonclinical Groups” and ”Qualitative Analysis of Phenomena and Symptoms Associated with Possession”.

At SWPS University in Katowice, Professor Pietkiewicz teaches classes in psychotherapy of post-traumatic disorders. He is also the Head of the Research Centre for Trauma and Dissociation and the Chair of the Ethical Review Board.
