Program

Students of English Studies with Mandarin learn English and Mandarin simultaneously. During the program, English courses are taught at a higher level of competency and include linguistics, intensive language development, as well as cultural and historical background of the English speaking countries. Mandarin classes, on the other hand, start at the beginner level and gradually develop language competences. The aim for students is to reach CEFR C1 English and B2 Chinese proficiency level or higher.

Depending on the selected specialization, students develop various competencies, such as translation, ability to work in an international business environment, teaching English as a foreign language, and extended knowledge of literature, media and culture of the English speaking countries.

Requirements: English proficiency - CEFR B2 or higher, supported by appropriate English proficiency certificates.

Important Center for East-Asia Studies

SWPS University is an important center for East-Asia Studies, in Poland. The department offers a vast library of texts and multimedia on Asian history, politics and culture. Its Centre for East-Asian Civilizations focuses on the ideological, political and spiritual tradition of East-Asian culture as well as on the contemporary changes happening in the region, including China, Japan and Burma.

Specializations

Translation Studies - Translation Track

Translation Studies focus on translation theory and practice and on intensive language skills development. All courses are taught by experienced translators and linguists. Students become familiar with the requirements of general and specialized translation. They practice various translation methods and techniques employed in written and oral translation. All translation courses are developed in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union’s Directorate-General for Translation.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) – Teaching Track

TEFL specialization prepares students for a teaching profession. Graduates can work not only in public schools, but also in private and language schools. They may also choose to combine teaching with a translation career. Additionally, students become familiar with the latest teaching methodologies and acquire competencies in the field of Teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP). During teaching internships, under the guidance of a coordinator, students create their own European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages.

English for Business Environment - Business Track

English for Business Environment is focused on teaching business English with elements of economy, marketing and public relations. Students learn about organizational structure, business management, business environment and market issues. They also become familiar with the style of business writing and learn how to develop business plans, reports and business strategy. Moreover, they gain general business skills, such as presentation or negotiation skills and learn about business code of conduct.

Cultural and Literary Studies – Cultural and Literary Track

Perfect for enthusiasts of the English speaking countries and English-based cultures. We focus on analytical and writing skills as well as on the ability to present a coherent argument in the written form. The path offers an opportunity to study the major literary texts in the English culture and to learn the tools and methodology indispensable in writing about complex phenomena. Some topics covered include: pop culture, film, interactive storytelling, literary criticism and cultural theory.

  2. Pay the Application Fee (PLN 85.00) via PayU - you will be asked to do so in the application form 
  3. Pay the Tuition Fee
  4. Wait for the Acceptance Letter
  5. Upon your arrival in Poland, submit original documents to the Admissions Office
  6. During the first semester, submit the Nostrification of your diploma (if applicable)

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree: Secondary school/high-school diploma
  • Master Degree: Bachelor diploma (undergraduate)
  • Eligible candidates are admitted on the first come, first served basis
  • English proficiency:
    • Bachelor Degree - CEFR B2, IELTS min. 6 pts. certificates issued by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the British Council and Education Australia
    • Master Degree - IELTS 7 pts. or C1
  • Dates of English language exams:
    June 6, 2021
    July 26, 2021
    August 23, 2021

 

Application Fee

Application fee in the amount of PLN 85.00 should be paid via PayU while submitting university application through the Application Portal.

The application fee is non-refundable unless:

  • the program of study that you applied to has been cancelled (except when you decide to enroll in a different program of study at SWPS University).

Persons exempt from the application fee:

  • Graduates of undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs completed at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities (formerly Warsaw School of Social Psychology SWPS)
  • Graduates of undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate studies completed at Collegium Da Vinci (formerly University of Humanities and Journalism)ych
  • Graduates of Liceum Akademickie Da Vinci (Da Vinci High School)

Tuition Fee Discount

  • Children of SWPS University alumni who enroll in degree programs at SWPS University are eligible for a 5% discount on tuition fee for every year of the program.
