In the era of the world wide web and ubiquitous digitalization, psychology of personality and psychology of individual differences have entered new research areas and have found new practical applications. In his lecture on Digital Footprints, addressed to academics and doctoral students, Dr. Michał Kosiński, Assistant Professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business and a graduate of SWPS University will explain how psychology and computational social science are used to develop algorithms that can provide insights into population-wide patterns and detailed characteristics of individuals.

The lecture, organized by the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program at SWPS University, is part of the series The Challenges of Humanities of the 21st Century.

The lecture is addressed to academics and doctoral students and will be conducted in English. Free admission.

Digital Footprints

A growing portion of offline and online human activities leave digital footprints in electronic databases. Resulting big social data offers unprecedented insights into population-wide patterns and detailed characteristics of individuals. The goal of this lecture is to show how pervasive records of digital footprints, such as Facebook profile, or mobile device logs, can be used to infer personality, a major psychological framework describing differences in individual behavior. The lecture will briefly introduce personality and will present a range of works focusing on predicting it from digital footprints and conclude with a discussion of the implications of these results in terms of privacy, data ownership, and opportunities for future research in computational social science.
